Nag Ashwin, the director of the much-acclaimed Kalki 2898 AD, has revealed details about the shooting schedule for the sequel featuring Prabhas and a stellar cast. He expressed hopes that Kalki 2 will be released by the end of 2026.
Director Nag Ashwin breaks silence on Kalki 2898 AD 2
Following the success of Kalki 2898 AD Part I, the makers are eagerly awaiting the start of production for the second instalment. The filming is projected to take place around mid-2025, but specific dates are still pending confirmation.
In an uncredited interview reported by Koimoi, Ashwin mentioned that while the plans are solidified on paper. They are still coordinating with the four leading stars to secure their “bulk dates” for filming. He confirmed that the script is fully completed and they are ready to begin shooting soon.
Prabhas’ current projects
Prabhas is currently engaged in multiple high-budget projects. He is in the post-production phase for The Raja Saab, set for release in April 2025. And he will also star in Fauji, directed by Hanu Raghavapudi. Additional upcoming films include Salaar 2 and Spirit, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, which are still awaiting production.
Producers’ statements
In a previous interview, producers Swapna Dutt and Priyanka Dutt had indicated plans to start shooting by January-February 2025. But those timelines have since shifted. They recently mentioned, “The filming will start in the next five or six months. Once it begins, we’ll be able to share more details.”
Swapna expressed her enthusiasm about launching part two, stating, “This time around, there’s a lot more excitement than nervousness. We are approaching this with much more planning. With the insights gained from the first part and how the audience received it, we’re moving forward with a fresh energy.”

The sequel will centre on Supreme Yaskin (played by Kamal Haasan), who is set to embark on a pivotal mission. The narrative will further explore the journeys of Bhairava (Prabhas) and Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan) as they strive to protect SUM-80’s (Deepika Padukone) unborn child, who is believed to be the last divine avatar of Lord Vishnu – Kalki. With high expectations from fans, the sequel promises to build on the rich storytelling and visual spectacle established in the first part.
