Kalki Koechlin shares her casting couch experience; says was called a Russian prostitute after ‘Dev D’

Off late, casting couch and body shaming is one of the most talked-about subjects and many actors and actresses have come out and shared their experiences. Recently, Kalki Koechlin opened up about how she lost a movie because she did not go out with a producer and was called a Russian prostitute!

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Kalki said that she received indirect sexual propositions from a producer who asked her out. And as the actress turned down his offer she lost the movie. “It was not a sexual proposition directly but indirectly. A producer wanted to go out on a date with me. I said no and he never got back. The film didn’t happen,” shared the ‘Dev D’ actress.

Kalki also said that she has suffered through sexual abuse in the past and has spoken about it multiple times. She further added, “I have undergone sexual abuse and I opened up about it first to my therapist and to my then partner. Later, during a conference that Rahul Bose was organising, I discussed it openly.”

The actress said it was after ‘Dev D’ that someone called her a ‘Russian Prostitute’. “It was after ‘Dev D’ that I read someone had said, ‘Where did they get this Russian prostitute from?’ I was like, hey I’m not Russian,” she revealed.

Even in Hollywood, she was put down when a casting agent wanted to look at her wrinkles near the eyes. She even went through an unemployed phase where she was offered no work despite being part of a blockbuster like ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’. “I have literally had eight-nine months of no work coming to me. That too after Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani,” Kalki said.

Right now Kalki is 8 months pregnant with partner Guy Hershberg’s child. She was last seen in Netflix’s series ‘Sacred Games’ and ‘Bhram’ on Zee5.
