Kamal Haasan to attend film preservation workshop

Actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan will be the chief guest at the closing certification ceremony of the Film Preservation and Restoration Workshop 2016, which will be held here on Sunday.

The “Papanasam” actor will present the International Federation of Film Archives certificates at the workshop, read a statement.

“A workshop of this kind is crucial for our country that has lost so much of our cinematic history and we need to grow a resource of passionate film archivists who are committed to saving our cinematic heritage,” Kamal Haasan said in the statement.

“I would like to congratulate Film Heritage Foundation for this remarkable initiative and for conducting the workshop at the National Film Archive of India,” he added.

The workshops that are being conducted on the idea of furthering and facilitating the knowledge of film restoration and preservation in India focus on the technical aspects and practices involved in the same and have been customized for the Indian scenario by David Walsh, head of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF) technical commission.
