Kamal Hasaan REVEALS he hated Amitabh Bachchan starrer Sholay

The question ‘What is Project K?’ has finally been answered. Prabhas and Deepika Padukone starrer Project K is now Kalki 2898 AD. This announcement was made at San Diego Comic-Con 2023. Along with a glimpse of what the movie has got in store for us. During the panel discussion at the grand launch, Kamal Hasaan shares the reason why he hates his Kalki 2898 co-star Amitabh Bachchan’s film classic film Sholay. 

Kamal Hasaan opens up about hating Sholay

Apart from Prabhas and Deepika, Kamal Hasaan and Amitabh Bachchan play pivotal roles in the movie. Though Big B wasn’t present physically in San Diego he graced the event by being on a video conference. The two superstars share a precious bond of friendship. Kamal recalled the time he was an assistant director on the sets of Sholay.

Sharing the hate he has for Amitabh’s film Sholay, Kamal said, “For those who remember Sholay with nostalgia, I was an assistant director. And, I couldn’t sleep that night when I saw Sholay. First, I hated the film so much, I hated the filmmaker (Ramesh Sippy) even more. And I had the opportunity of working with that great filmmaker and I told him that that was my reaction when I saw the film.”

He jokingly also expressed his astonishment and said, “As a technician, I couldn’t sleep that night and that’s the kind of movies. Many such movies Amit ji has done, and to hear him say nice things about my films is something I had not imagine. When I was an assistant director and watching Sholay on the big screen. Thank you, Amit ji.” Their friendly banter was a refreshing moment. We can’t wait to see them together in Project K.

Directed by Ramesh Sippy, the movie Sholay released in the 1975. Apart from Amitabh, it starred Dharmendra and Hema Malini in the lead roles. Till date Bollywood fans watch the movie and it plays an important role in the history of Indian Cinema.

Project K 1st Glimpse is out now

Directed by Nag Ashwin, Project K is now Kalki 2898 AD. It stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead roles. On the other hand, Kamal Hasaan will playing the antagonist. Disha Patani is also said to have a special appearance. The movie is slated to release on 12 January 2024.
