‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’ has been in the news since its inception. Kangana Ranaut is playing the lead role of Rani Laxmibai in the historical drama. The teaser was released on October 2 this year and we could see Kangana at her best. The trailer will be out on December 18.
Kangana has been preparing for her role since years and she has given her best to get into the skin of her character. During a conversation with Mid-Day, Kangana said that the weapons that were used in the film fascinated her the most. She said, “Rifles were new for people at that time; only a few used them. While the British army used Enfield rifles, Rani Laxmibai preferred swords. I was fascinated with the 150-year-old weapons we used in the film. I also had to carry a shield that weighed about five kilos. The cast and crew would start getting ready at 3 am. Since the set-up would take six to seven hours, we would take only one or two shots a day.”
We see Kangana doing a lot of sword- fighting in the teaser and she has taken special training for this. She looks fierce and feisty as a warrior.
‘Manikarnika’ is a magnum opus and it will be a treat for the audiences to see such antique weapons in the movie. Despite getting embroiled in controversies, the movie is all set to release on January 25, 2018. It also stars Atul Kulkarni as Tatya Tope, Suresh Oberoi as Bajirao, Danny Denzongpa as Nana Sahib, Jisshu Sengupta as Gangadhar Rao and Ankita Lokhande as Jhalkaribai. Sonu Sood, who walked out of the movie, was to play Sadashiv Narayan Rao. This role is now played by Zeeshan Ayyub.
