Kangana Ranaut starrer ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’ has been in news since its inception for all the wrong reasons. Due to a fallout with Kangana, director Krish left midway. Also, Sonu Sood and Swati Semwal (who was supposed to play Sonu Sood’s on-screen wife) quit the project. Kangana has spoken about the exit of these people in an interview with Bollywood Life.
It was said that the reason behind their exit was Kangana’s interference in the movie and her opinions related to the movie. This apparently irked Sonu and it resulted in his exit.
While talking about this, the ‘Queen’ actress said, “They blatantly refused to work with me and called me incompetent as a director. But they have not been on my set. They did not have a meeting with me. So how do they know I am incompetent as a director and left the film on the basis of my incompetence. There’s a perception that ye ladki kya kar legi. What else is it?”
‘Manikarnika’ is partly directed by Kangana after Krish’s ouster. It is a biopic on the warrior queen Rani Laxmibai who fought with the Britishers with valour. This is Kangana’s first biopic as an actor.
Produced by Zee Studios in association with Kamal Jain and Nishant Pitti, ‘Manikarnika’ also stars Atul Kulkarni, Suresh Oberoi, Danny Denzongpa, Jisshu Sengupta and Ankita Lokhande in titular roles. It is scheduled to release on January 25, 2019.
