Karan Johar is one of the most successful directors and producers in Bollywood. Over the years, he has delivered many hit films in his career. His last directorial film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani won many hearts. Recently, KJo was a part of the round-table conversation where he candidly spoke about generating positive reviews for average films. He admitted that he has paid people to praise his films.
KJo reveals filmmakers get own people to praise their films
Speaking to Galatta Plus, KJo said, “Many times we also as PR send our own people and say praise the film and all, that happens. Sometimes you are struggling to make a mark. Obviously, many times you want to put out good videos. As a producer, you will do every last-ditch attempt to make your film be heard. So, while I may critique criticism, I’m also riding on their backs when they praise a film. I can come cross as two-faced but I am very well doing that as a person. I am changing as per films. Some films work on their own, I can be like ‘let me take the high ground’. Yeh average ja rahi hai isko hit perception banao (If the film is doing average, you need to create the perception of a hit).”
KJo added, “A producer’s job starts when the film releases and he has to take it through like a warrior. It’s the middle order film that you have to fight for, that you have to create an aura, energy perception. Sometimes you give four lines of praise for the film and then everyone is using those same four lines. Then you know it has been brought.” Furthermore, he called it an ‘interesting exercise’.
2023 was an exciting year for KJo. Karan Johar made his comeback as a director with Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh starrer Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The film which also starred Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Kshitee Jog, and Shabana Azmi was a hit at the box office.
