At the 70th National Film Awards ceremony held in Delhi on October 8, Brahmastra celebrated significant victories, securing accolades in three prominent categories. Producer Karan Johar attended the prestigious event alongside the film’s director, Ayan Mukerji, and took a moment to dedicate the accomplishments to the director.
Karan Johar credits Ayan Mukerji for Brahmastra
Brahmastra received the award for Best Male Playback Singer, which went to Arijit Singh for the song Kesariya, and titles for Best Film in Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics (AVGC) and Best VFX Film. When discussing the film’s success, Karan Johar emphasized the pivotal role of Ayan Mukerji, attributing the film’s stunning visual effects to his creative vision.
“I can’t take any credit for the special effects or the VFX element. Brahmastra is purely Ayan Mukerji’s brainchild—his baby and his vision. He has crafted this entire world. My role is simply to cheer and support, and, of course, graciously accept this honour. The credit truly belongs to him,” Karan Johar stated to the media.
The awards were determined by a jury led by Rahul Rawail chairing the Feature Film Jury, alongside Nila Madhab Panda of the Non-Feature Film Jury and Gangadhar Mudalair heading the Best Writing on Cinema Jury.
Featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles, the film also stars notable actors such as Mouni Roy, Amitabh Bachchan, Dimple Kapadia, and Nagarjuna Akkineni. Brahmastra is part of a planned three-part series. Ayan Mukerji is currently engaged in War 2 and is expected to start working on Brahmastra 2 afterwards.
Karan Johar and Ayan Mukerji fall out
Latest reports suggested that the rift between Karan and Ayan is false. According to a report in Hindustan Times, a source was quoted saying, “This is not true. It is a gossip-mongering piece which is trying to create a rift between the two. The two very much have the same bond which they have had until now. Ayan has given Karan a big hit, and the latter has been a big support to him, right from launching him as a director with Wake Up! Sid. Brahmastra was a big film, made possible only by the complete faith the two showed in each other.”
Karan Johar wishes Ayan Mukerji for his birthday
Amidst the fallout rumours, Karan Johar had written a lovely post on Ayan Mukerji on his birthday ahead of Brahmastra’s release. He wrote, “Love is such a strong feeling and emotion… it can be divided and yet felt in abundance… I love you Ayan and feel protective about you as much as i do for my twins…. I know the decade( a whole decade) of work you have put into your film BRAHMASTRA … “
Continuing the wish,” I have never seen anyone dedicate most of their professional lives to one project the way you have…What tomorrow or rather the 9th of September holds for us we can’t predict at this moment! But your commitment and hard work is already a victory! You just fly! Just soar! Just keep aiming high! Dreams are a reality if you truly believe them and I know you do! Your dream is your labour of love the world will see soon! Love you, my child! And oh ya! Happy birthday!!!!!”
