karan johar, call me bae, ananya panday,

Filmmaker Karan Johar has bankrolled the Amazon video series Call Me Bae. The show is about Ananya Panday a South Delhi princess who was born with a silver spoon is disowned by her family. The queen bee now struggles in Mumbai and makes a name for herself. Seeing her character, a lot of people also feel her character is quite similar to Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Poo character from Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham.

Reacting to the similarities, Karan Johar says that her character can be assumed as a baby girl of Rohan Raichand (Hrithik Roshan) and Pooja Raichand (Kareena Kapoor). He also called Ananya’s character ‘a GenZ 2.0 derivative of Poo’.

Karan Johar on Ananya Panday’s character in Call Me Bae

KJo said, “I think if I had to say I would say that it’s been 23 years to Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. So I think if Rohan Raichand and Pooja Raichand had a baby girl, she would be ‘Bae’. I am talking about those characters, not referring to anyone’s age at the moment. I am telling this because Bae really is a GenZ 2.0 derivative of Poo. So she is really like when Poo ends Bae takes off. That’s the best way I can describe it. Because even when you saw the character of Poo, it started with all fun and games and then of course she contributes to the emotional gravitas. Similarly, while you look at this show and have an outer perspective that it’s fun, cool and fashionable, but its saying a lot.
