For the uninitiated, it was because of Ma Anand Sheela that the Osho community became popular in Oregon in the US. In 1986, she was found guilty in the 1984 bioterror attack on the people of The Dalles, Oregon. She was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment but later came out on parole after serving 39 months.
