Karan Johar and the whole team of ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ had to go through a lot and were under a lot of stress during the release of his film. With the ban on Pakistani artists in India, political parties had been protesting against the release of the film, as it starred Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Khan.
This was when producer Karan Johar had to step up and prove his patriotism through an apology video. He issued a statement through the video and apologised. He requested all the protesters to consider all the hard work that has been put in by the entire team.
While Karan never come out in open to actually speak about the video, in his latest interview, Karan expressed his sadness over the same. He was quoted saying, “At the time of ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’, I was torn between ideology and circumstance. I have my own belief and thoughts on this, but there’s a studio and cast I’m accountable to, the team of the film I’m accountable to. So I had to put out a statement which I feel terrible about”. He further said how he felt disheartening it was to “sit in front of the camera” and speak about his “nationalism and patriotism”.
The producer/director also revealed how the video apology was one of the worst mistakes of his life and said, “Everyone said it looked like you were going to cry. I wasn’t crying and pleading to profess my nationalism. I wanted to break into tears… the fact that I had to do this. It felt like there was an invisible gun on my head.”
The movie was allowed to release after Karan’s apology.
