If we have to mention one movie that had tanked badly at the box office in 2019 despite a lot of promotions and buzz, then ‘Kalank’ would top the list. The multi-starrer drama was made on a huge budget but it failed to live up to the expectations of the audience and critics.
Karan Johar is yet again geared up for a period drama-‘Takht'(which is also multi-starrer) and in an interview with Hindustan Times, he said that we won’t repeat the same mistakes that he did in his previous movie.
Talking about ‘Kalank’s failure, the filmmaker said, “Whenever a film fails, you can always say that a group makes it, so everyone is equally responsible. But, being the most senior member of that group in terms of the creative crew guiding that ship, if it failed, I’d take complete responsibility as it was my failure more than anyone else’s.”
He further said, “I’m the reason ‘Kalank’ failed because I took the film into directions it should not have gone to. I could have guided it into the right zone; made it in a better way and encouraged the director to do well on his own.”
Karan also said that he would never erase the memories of ‘Kalank’ as a lot of love and passion went into the making of that film and there are people who will respect certain parts of that film with time.
