Karan Johar

Enough has been said on nepotism and the word still continues to hold prominence in Bollywood for various reasons. The episode and the celeb who started it all, Kangana Ranaut, who called Karan Johar ‘the flagbearer of nepotism’, has given rise to a new word that’s being spoken about in every interview and movie event. Of course, the poor target, Karan Johar has not been spared at all as he is constantly asked about it and it looks like he has had enough of it. He has penned down a thoughtful open letter talking about nepotism like never before.

We came across the letter on NDTV website, and we thought it would be ideal to let everyone know what the letter holds.

To start with, Karan talks about how he is constantly chased by the word and now he cannot handle the burden of being called nepotistic all the time. He wrote about how he believes that the industry is nepotistic and how as an individual, he has engaged in nepotism to some extent, but that’s a norm in every field.

He speaks about how he has given a break to Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan in ‘Student Of The Year’, but that’s not just because they are star kids, but because he saw potential in them and that’s the reason they are sustaining and doing very well today. He also cites an example of how he has offered roles to stellar actors like Irrfan Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui who have unfortunately turned down his offers, so he doesn’t really consider him to be the sole owner of that term. He speaks about how he himself started off as an Assistant Director to a first-time director, but eventually it was his movies that gave him recognition. He even says that the lady who coined the term for him on his episode, Kangana has been a part of a Dharma film too.

Also, he further asserts that many web portals promote star kids like Aryan Khan, Sara Ali Khan, Jhanvi Kapoor and Aarav Kumar, when they haven’t even stepped into Bollywood. Because they fetch in more clicks and work better on social media than their parents. He asks if that is not nepotistic enough? Finally, he sums it up by saying that if he is nepotistic along with many others in Bollywood, then so is everyone else in every field because favouritism does exist everywhere.

Well, we agree with what Karan has to say because it’s a nepotistic world and we cannot hold just one person or one set of industry individuals responsible for it.
