Karan Johar breaks silence on reports claiming his birthday bash was a Covid hotspot

Last month, Karan Johar celebrated his 50^th birthday. He hosted a birthday bash and it was attended by many celebrities including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Katrina Kaif, Kiara Advani among others. Reports soon emerged claiming that his birthday party was a Covid-19 hotspot. Now, Karan addressed the claims and said that he felt victimised as it wasn’t just his party that took place on the week of his birthday.

Speaking with Film Companion, he said, “There were stories and media articles that said that it become a super-spreader. Now look, not to get technical about it but we don’t know who contracted it and when because there was a lot happening that week, even in the movie industry.”

He added, “There was another party, there were weddings, there were events, there were shoots, why blame me? Like everything, why does it come down to me?”

Karan continued, “I don’t mean to sound like a victim but I do feel marginally victimised. I’m like I have nothing to do with this pandemic, I just want to put it out there. It’s not me. I have no connection with the beginning and the origin of this pandemic. I just want to put it out there. So why people wrote what they did, how many people contracted it, did it happen at my party, I’m not saying it, I don’t know.”

Speaking about the party, it took place at Yash Raj Studios. Several pictures and videos from the bash had gone viral on the internet. Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan’s selfie with Madhuri Dixit took internet by storm.

On the other hand, Karan is now working on Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. He returns to the director’s seat with RARKPK. The movie stars Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi. Apart from RARKPK, Karan also has the new season of his talk show Koffee With Karan. The much-anticipated new season of KWK will directly stream on Disney+ Hotstar.
