On June 26, 2004, filmmaker Yash Johar passed away at age 74 owing to a chest infection while battling cancer. Today, on the filmmaker’s 20th death anniversary, his son, filmmaker-actor Karan Johar took to social media to remember his dad. KJo shared a couple of archival pictures of his dad and a heartfelt note on his death anniversary.

Karan Johar captioned his post, “I can’t believe it’s been 20 years… My biggest fear was losing a parent… August 2nd,2003 my father told me he had a malignant tumour… my worst nightmare was staring at me and yet it was my duty as his child to stay positive and keep the faith… but the worst thing about instincts are that… they never lie…”
He continued, “He left us 10 months after …. We lost him … but we gained every inch of his mammoth goodwill…. I was so proud to be the son of the most solid, soulful and selfless man… he put his relationships above everything else… and has left a legacy of love that my mother and I still live by ….” He concluded his post by stating he wished his father knew his children – Yash and Roohi. He wrote, “I wish he knew our children … but I do know he’s watching over them and us….all the time … Love you Papa…”
Talking about the pictures in the post, one of the pics sees Yash Johar holding one of his Filmfare Awards, while another sees him with his best friend and colleague Yash Chopra. The post even includes some pics of Yash with Hiroo Johar as well as a few of his industry friends.

Reacting to the post, Zoya Akhtar wrote, “The Best of the Best ” while Priyanka Chopra Jonas commented, “The best (folded hand emoji).” Manish Malhotra, Manisha Koirala, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Apoorva Mehta, Sonu Sood, Hrithik Roshan, and many other celebs commented with red heart emojis. Anil Kapoor too remembers the late filmmaker by commenting, “loved him… great guy” along with several hearts.
Who was Yash Johar
Karan Johar’s father, Yash Johar was the founder of Dharma Productions. The filmmaker – who began his career as a publicist and still photographer in the early 1950s, is responsible for production superhits like Dostana, Agneepath, Duplicate, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham… and Kal Ho Naa Ho amongst others.
