Karan Johar reveals the real reason behind quitting Twitter, says, “When I started reading abuse…”

Karan Johar is one of the most acclaimed director and producer in Bollywood. He recently returned to director’s chair with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani which was a commercial success. The filmmaker is an avid social media user and enjoys a massive fan following. But he left everyone in shock after he had quit Twitter in October 2022. Recently, in an interview, he finally revealed the reason behind it.

The filmmaker revealed he took that decision as he was worried about his kids. He said in the interview, “That (quitting Twitter) was an instinctive decision I made when I started reading abuse to my children. When that happened… this is the lowest you could get. Abuse me, say what you want. They also abused my mother. My mother is still an older person. My children were five at that time, when I took the decision. Now, I’m not going back on this platform for anything. Of course, my company is on it. I realise the importance of Twitter. But I don’t want to be on this platform. I don’t want to read anything about my children. That breaks my heart not only as a parent, but also as a human being”.

Karan had bid adieu to the site on 10 October 2022. His last tweet read, “Making space for more positive energies only and this is step one towards that. Goodbye Twitter!”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Karan is currently enjoying international praise for the film Kill which is backed by him and Guneet Monga’s production houses. Kill starring Lakshya and Raghav Juyal premiered at TIFF 2023 recently. He will reportedly reunite with Salman Khan for a project after 25 years.
