Student Of The Year 3 will be a web show, not Karan Johar but Reema Maya to direct; Shanaya Kapoor likely to play the lead

Karan Johar has been entertaining audiences for years now through films and now, web series. KJo has been the man behind several hits, including the much-loved 2012 college drama/school drama Student of the Year and its 2019 sequel, Student of the Year 2. While the former launches Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra into Bollywood, the latter starrer Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria.

Now, the filmmaker has shared an update about the third project in the franchise – Student of the Year 3. Read on to know all he shared.

While speaking at the Cinevesture International Film Festival (CIFF) in Chandigarh (via Hindustan Times), Karan Johar got candid about Student of the Year 3. During the interaction, KJo confirmed that Nocturnal Burger fame, Reema Maya will be directing the website series in the franchise. Karan also stated that the threequel will reflect Reema’s voice and not Karan’s – aka, a departure from the franchise’s usual style.

Karan Johar said, “Reema Maya will be directing the digital version of Student of the Year. But it will be in her own style and definitely not mine because if I were to influence Reema Maya’s work, I would make it more of an illusion, which is what her name means. I just wanted it to be her voice. She made it her own series.”

Student of the Year – starring Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra, was directed by Karan Johar, while the sequel – featuring Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria, was helmed by Punit Malhotra.

About Student of the Year 3

Last year reports surfaced suggesting Sanjay Kapoor’s daughter, Shanaya Kapoor will be headlining the third instalment of Student of the Year. The makers of SOTY3 are yet to make an official announcement about the web series and reveal the rest of the cast and crew. As per a media report, the web series will run on Disney+ Hotstar and is likely go on floors around mid 2024.
