Karan Johar, who is gearing up for his upcoming chat show ‘Koffee With Karan’, will be directing historical drama ‘Takht’ soon. The film boasts of an ensemble cast that includes Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Janhvi Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar and Anil Kapoor.
Speaking to reporters, Karan said, “The film is based on a true historical event that transpired. It is embedded in history and that is why it is important to tell it the way it was.”
Karan was also asked if he was worried about the film getting into trouble (like ‘Padmaavat’), to which he said, “It is not my interpretation of history but what happened then. The story is based on the Mughal empire and what people know. Every writer and director has their interpretation of history, but in this case, we are not creating anything. It is based on the historical facts and we are doing it with a lot of dignity.”
Karan also went on to add that film making was a writer’s medium, and not a director’s medium or an actor’s medium. He also commented on comparisons with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and said that while he admired Bhansali’s work, his film cannot be compared with his films.
Certainly, ‘Takht’ is one film we’re extremely excited to see.
