Shah Rukh Khan’s show ‘TED Talks India Nayi Soch’ will soon see his friend and filmmaker Karan Johar as a guest. The filmmaker recently shot for this episode, where he talked about relationships and being a single parent to his twin kids Roohi and Yash. There was a segment where he read out excerpts from a letter penned by him for his kids.

He said on the show, “Just like any other parent, I too have a lot of expectations from you (Roohi and Yash). This expectation is necessary because we build our foundation based on them. Your grandmother (Hiroo Johar) has told me and will also tell you that bookish knowledge is not everything. On the other hand, your grandfather (Yash Johar) always told me to listen to my heart no matter what.” (Also Check: #ZeeCineAwards2018: Priyanka Chopra, Karan Johar and others dazzle the red carpet)

“At the age of four I wanted to become a hair stylist; at 10 I wanted to become a dancer; at 15, I wished to take up copy writing; at 18, a fashion designer and eventually at the age of 20 I decided I wanted to become a filmmaker. My father was very supportive of me despite my varied interests and that surprised me,” added the filmmaker.

Further, he took the opportunity to address the problems that his kids might face as the offsprings of a single parent. He said, “As you grow up, people will try to label you according to colour, looks, religion, popularity, and money. People will gossip about you, but know that no one can label you. Just because you are different, it doesn’t make you wrong.”

“You may be treated differently in school; mothers of your classmates will come to drop them, but you will have your father to take care of that. While most of your classmates’ mothers will make a WhatsApp group to discuss your homework, I will be the only father in it,” as he read out the letter.

Indeed, this is an emotional letter which even makes us remember Karan’s directorial debut ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. Do you remember as well?
