The Shre Rajput Karni Sena which had created a ruckus on the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’ in the past has now said that it will oppose the screening of the movie, if the facts are distorted. Lokendra Singh Kalvi, patron and founder of Shri Rajput Karni Sena said, “Around 20 days back someone from Bhansali’s team had called and told us to see the film, but we asked them to show it to historians and intellectuals. After that we have not heard anything from them.”
This comes after the first look of the movie featuring Deepika Padukone was unveiled yesterday. Deepika essays the role of Rani Padmavati or Padmini of Chittor. Kalvi added, “We will not allow distorted facts to be shown in the film at any cost, and will see to it that the film is not screened in half of India. They are trying to defame ‘Padmavati’ by distorting historical facts. It is not acceptable.” (Also Read: Decoding: Deepika Padukone’s visually appealing ‘Padmavati’ avatar!)
For those unknown, the activists of the Karni Sena had protested by misbehaving with the crew of the movie on the grounds of the filmmaker distorting the historical facts. They had damaged cameras and other equipment, which forced the makers to halt the shooting of the movie. They stated that in not a single book it is written that Alauddin Khilji, the strong ruler of the Khilji dynasty fell in love with Padmavati. After this controversy, another problem erupted for the makers as some miscreants broke the mirrors in Padmini Mahal in Chittorgarh Fort. They claimed that the mirror was created years after Padmavati lived and hence it’s a completely fake story.
Directed and written by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, ‘Padmavati’ also stars Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor and will be releasing on December 1, 2017.
