Kiran Rao didn’t want Aamir to do ‘Secret Superstar’ and the reason is amusing

After breaking records at the box office with the wrestling drama ‘Dangal’ last year, Aamir Khan is back with a new movie called ‘Secret Superstar’ which stars his onscreen daughter from ‘Dangal’, Zaira Wasim, in the lead role. In the movie ‘Secret Superstar’, Aamir essays the role of a music director who is slightly flirtatious and has a unique style of dressing. So today, at the trailer launch of the movie, his wife-producer of the movie, Kiran Rao revealed that she didn’t want Aamir to do the role of Shakti Kumar as she found the character to be creepy and wasn’t sure if he could do justice to it.

Said Kiran, “He wasn’t our first pick. I didn’t want him to play Shakti. He is a creepy character whom you wouldn’t want to share the room with. I told him, aapne abhi ‘Dangal’ ki hai, yeh kaise karoge? (You have just done ‘Dangal’, how will you take such a role?) But he surprised us all.” She further added, “But when we saw the screen test, we had a good laugh and we were convinced he could pull it off.” Well yes, Aamir went through a screen test because he himself wasn’t quite convinced about portraying the character. Said Aamir, “I decided to do a screen test for this role because I wasn’t really sure. It was a challenge for me to portray this character.” Actress Zaira Wasim was also surprised with his transformation from a retired wrestler to a funky music director. She said, “After having seen him in ‘Dangal’, I was shocked to see him as Shakti Kumar here.” Also, this isn’t the first time that Kiran has asked Aamir to not take up a role, as during her directorial debut ‘Dhobi Ghat’, she did not want him to play the lead role, but he managed to convince her by actually auditioning for the role of a painter. And finally, he bagged the role.

Talking about the movie ‘Secret Superstar’, it is directed by Advait Chandan, produced by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao and will be releasing during Diwali this year.
