According to recent reports, the anti-smoking ad and disclaimers that appear in movie halls before the film and interval, will now be replaced by some more effective ones, which will be helmed by Bollywood directors and will feature Bollywood celebs.
And if rumours are to be believed, Kiran Rao has been given the first offer to make the ad. Chief Executive Officer at The Film and Television Producers Guild of India Limited, Kulmeet Makkar, claimed that they had told the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I & B) that repeated disclaimers disrupt viewing experience. “They saw where we were coming from and after much contemplation asked us to make ads which are far more effective and to the point,” Makkar said.
“The industry is pleased to take on the responsibility. In fact we are in the process of approaching filmmakers who could make these ads. The plan is that once we are ready with them, others ads and disclaimers will be removed from theatres. It’s a great step for the industry and society,” he adds.
He further reveals that they will also be making anti-piracy ads soon. “Anti-piracy ads will see stars churning out messages of “Don’t steal our movies”, “Don’t pirate”. We will ask the government to play them just like the anti-smoking ad and the national anthem.”
This sure is a very smart step.
