Kirti Kulhari has a humble reaction to having a small role in Khichdi 2, says, ‘Every film doesn’t have to be about me’

Khichdi is one of the most loved television series and the audience still can’t get over the fun moments the show had. Its popularity spawned sequels and was created in four different formats. Khichdi: The movie was released in 2010 and 13 years later makers announced the sequel of the film which is set to release this Diwali. The trailer of Khichdi 2 – Mission Paanthukistan was unveiled on 1st November. The cast of Khichdi 2 was present at the trailer launch. At the grand event, Kirti Kulhari why she agreed to be a part of Khichdi 2.

Kirti Kulhari on having small part in Khichdi 2

Kirti will reprise the role of Parminder in Khichdhi 2. Recalling how she marked her debut with Khichdi: The movie, the actress shared, “Khichdi meri pehli film thi 2010 mai and bahut hi alag tarah ki film thi. Mai theatre karke nikli thi toh mai kirdaaro ko bahut seriously leti thi (Khichdi was my debut movie and being a theatre artist I took characters very seriously). I remember when I met Aatish and I asked him that how should I prepare for this role. He only advised me to leave my brains at home, come to the sets and have fun. And something about that just stuck with me.

She added, “Beech me jis tarah ka mera kaam raha hai wo dekh kaafi log bolte hai ki mai comedy kyu nahi karti and here I am. Mai pehle se hi khichdi parivaar ka hissa nahi thi (Seeing the kind of work I have done in past years, people often ask why do I not do comic roles. I was not a part of Khichdi family since its inception).”

Talking about how director Aatish Kapadia and producer JD were hesitating to approach her, Kirti recalled, “I didn’t have too much to do in the film back then as I was a newcomer. Even today I don’t have much to do (chuckles). But I am okay with that since this film truly belongs to the Parekh family and I am happy being a small part of it. Every film doesn’t have to be about me. Looking at my body of work, When JD Majethia and Aatish Kapadia came to me with the second part, they had hesitation that I have a small part to play and will I be okay doing it or not. But everything said and done, Khichdi is close to my heart as I started my career with it. I am a fan of all of them(the cast) and I said them yes to play Parminder and here I am 12 years later.”

The flick will be led by an unbeatable ensemble cast and features Supriya Pathak Kapoor, Rajeev Mehta, Anang Desai, Vandana Pathak, Kirti Kulhari, and actor-producer Jamnadas Majethia (JD). Directed by Aatish Kapadia, the movie is all set to release on 17^th November 2023.
