Did you know South star Mohanlal was in the race to essay Aamir Khan’s role in ‘Dangal’?

Aamir Khan-starrer ‘Dangal‘ has been on a record-breaking spree ever since its release on December 23, 2016. If you have seen the movie, then you might agree that no one else apart from Aamir could have played the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat, with as much perfection.

Now, we have come across an interesting tidbit on these lines by Divya Rao, the creative producer of UTV Motion Pictures. In a recent interview, Divya stated that South star Mohanlal was in the contention to play the role of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat in the movie. The team of UTV had planned to approach top South actors like Mohanlal or Kamal Haasan, in case Aamir Khan turned down the offer.

The South actor is a wrestler in real life too and has won the Kerala state wrestling championship of 1977-78. How interesting would it be if he was to play the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat in ‘Dangal’? So, if the movie is ever being made in Malayalam or Tamil, Mohanlal could probably make a cut for the South version and we are sure he would do justice to the role.

But, the Hindi version clearly belonged to Aamir Khan and we just can not imagine any other actor playing the role with such ease. ‘Dangal’ was directed by Nitesh Tiwari and also featured Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Zaira Wasim, Suhani Bhatnagar.
