Koena Mitra recalls the time when she was offered only sex-comedies; says, “I couldn’t see myself on such posters”

Actress Koena Mitra has been in the industry for 13 years and she has done Hindi, Tamil and Bengali movies. After a long hiatus, Koena appeared on the reality show ‘Bigg Boss 13’ in 2019. Talking about her break from the industry, Koena said that she is a moody person when it comes to working and she has to love everything she does.

She said, “I do everything from my heart. Four and a half years ago I had gone to LA for a screen test. I liked their lifestyle, the way they worked and professionalism. In India when you become a star or celeb you stop learning and upgrading with knowledge. I stayed there for four and a half years. When it comes to creativity it should be fun. I like exploring new stuff and I will always be a student as I love knowledge. I did a film which didn’t release yet where I played a French character. The film will have a global release. I have never followed other’s pattern. So, when I returned back, I sprained my back and stayed at home for eight-nine months and enjoyed that phase.”

When we asked Koena if she is selective in choosing projects, the ‘Saki Saki’ actress said, “I get angry when I’m offered similar roles from every production houses. I expect creative people to experiment and surprise the audience. Writers should at times surprise actors also. They should create characters that are challenging for actors and audience should find them refreshing.”

She added, “There was a course when I was offered every sex comedies at that time. In 2016, 2017 and 2018 whatever sex comedies released, was offered to me. I couldn’t and don’t see myself on the poster of a sex comedy. I don’t think I will be able to promote a film that has double meaning dialogues, and able to invite my family for the premiere. I think as an artist if I’m doing something, my fans and family should be proud. At the age of 60-70, I don’t want to regret or feel embarrassed about what I am doing right now. Because every work will be part of my showreel.”
