Koffee With Karan 7: Not Kiara Advani, but Karan Johar approached THIS leading actress first for Lust Stories

Kiara Advani made her debut at Karan Johar’s infamous couch on Koffee With Karan 7, in the show’s latest episode, accompanied by her Kabir Singh co-star Shahid Kapoor. The actress was a firecracker on the whole episode and since it was her first appearance on the show, she brought in a lot of freshness and many unrevealed secrets to the front.

Karan and Kiara began their collaborative journey from Netflix’s anthology Lust Stories. The filmmaker’s story saw Kiara’s character in a marriage with Vicky Kaushal, where physically unsatisfied with her husband, she tries to explore her sexuality. The film became famous for one of its scenes that saw Kiara’s character having an orgasm accidentally in front of her family, and while on the show, the duo discussed that and some more fun secrets from the sets.

While talking about his first project with Kiara, Karan said, “I really had to direct this film in this anthology. There was Zoya, Dibakar Banerjee, Anurag Kashyap, all making their movies, I was the last one. I was doing many things and I hadn’t been able to shoot it. Suddenly they were like ‘Karan, you got to shoot it, the film has to be made.’ And I was like, what do I do. Suddenly the story came about and I wrote it. And I was like, this story is going to be tough to cast because this girl, pretty much, has an open orgasm, in front of the whole family.”

And while Kiara did a fabulous job in Lust Stories that put her on the map, Karan made this reveal on Koffee With Karan 7, that she wasn’t actually his first choice. He shared, “So, I had offered it to Kriti Sanon, the role, and she said that her mom didn’t allow her. So, I was like okay, I thought that everybody’s mom will now stand in line, not allowing their daughters. It is actually a very empowering story, it’s about a woman’s right to pleasure.”

However, it was written in the stars for Kiara, and Karan shared the story of how she came to be on board. He revealed, “I met Kiara at Manish Malhotra’s house and I just saw her. I saw the face and I knew her, of course, I knew her as Alia Advani. In fact, on my phone, till very recently, her name was fed as Alia Advani. So, Alias are in my naseeb. I met her and I was like can you come tomorrow and meet me, it is for a short film. She came and she heard it and I think she was just little like zoned out. She said, are you directing it? I said yes, then she said, yeah, I am doing it.”

Kiara then went on to reveal that Karan directing the film was the only reason she needed to say yes to Lust Stories. She said, “But I have to say that, of course, that was the film a lot of people noticed me in, but I have to say that when I signed the film, when I said yes, it was only to work with Karan Johar.”

Well, eventually Karan and Kiara went on to work together not just on Lust Stories, but on many more films like Guilty, Kalank, Good Newwz and JugJugg Jeeyo, and going by the camaraderie they share, this work union is going to grow more and more in the future.
