Kajol and Rani Mukerji were the recent guests to have appeared on one of the most famous talk shows, Koffee With Karan 8. The Kuch Kuch Hota Hai actress added charm on the iconic couch on Koffee With Karan 8 as they shared insights from their personal and professional lives. Adding to this, they also addressed age discrimination of older actors and actresses in the film industry.
Kajol and Rani Mukerji comment on age discrimination in movies
During the candid chat, Karan Johar was speaking about Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and the gender politics revolving around it. Karan added that Rani went to an interview recently and said some of the entertaining things. Rani was asked when she would do a mature love story. To this, the actress had replied and said that only the women mature and the men just keep getting younger. When asked whether age discrimination is the truth of life, Rani Mukerji said, “It’s the truth of cinema and not particularly the cinema of the world but Indian Cinema.”
Kajol also added, “It’s the truth of society actually. You have older men having younger wives and nobody raises an eyebrow. You’ve had 30-year-old men getting married to 13 year old girls for like 100’s of years.” Further, Rani added, “I think it’s what we want to accept and what we don’t want to accept. So I think it comes from a collective thought process that has been told to us from childhood and that is what we are following because we are not using our brains.”
When Karan added that the industry can be ageist, Rani said, “I don’t think it’s only the industry. Let’s not be harsh on the industry. I think the industry does what they expect whether it will be accepted by the audience or not.” Further, Karan Johar said what many netizens are waiting to see. He said that the audience would like to watch Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol romance on the screen. To this, Kajol had a hilarious reaction as she said, “And cut to next question please!”
