While there’s film like ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ that is doing so well at the box office without having any prominent male lead, a film like ‘Scholarship’ starring Konkona Sensharma and Kalki Koechlin is stalled as no one wants to back the film. Well, investors are not putting their money in the film as it doesn’t have any popular male lead.
Aditi Gupta, the producer of the film, told a tabloid, “We started with the idea that a lot of women-centric films are getting made nowadays with proper releases and are being appreciated. Initially, a few investors backed out citing demonetisation as the reason but it has been six-seven months. We approached a lot of other investors after that but all of them turned us down as our film doesn’t have a big male actor. We had shot for only 15-20 days in January. We’ve found some new investors but we’re still short of the budget we need to complete the film.”
The movie is about a venture capitalist, played by Kalki, and her help, played by Konkona, and the problems the two face in their lives. Well, the movie has Sid Makkar as the male in the film opposite Kalki Koechlin.
We hope that after seeing the collection of ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’, ‘Scholarship’ will get a financier and the film will be back on track. (Also Read: Ratna Pathak Shah and Konkona Sensharma fight over Pahlaj Nihalani, courtesy Behuda Bibi)
Konkona had directed Kalki in her directorial debut ‘A Death In The Gunj’. And now, it will surely be interesting to see the two sharing screen space in ‘Scholarship’.
