Actress Konkana Sen Sharma has lost her father, a well-known polymath, science writer and actor Mukul Sharma. The former editor of Science Today passed away on Thursday night at the age of 69. He is survived by his wife Binita and two daughters Kamalini and actress Konkona.
Sharma had made his acting debut as the young photographer Rahul in his first wife Aparna Sen’s 1984 film ‘Paroma’, which revolved around the eponymous 40-year-old who falls in love with this young man. He even wrote a popular column called Mindsport for the Illustrated Weekly of India magazine.
Sharma was also a story writer and director Vishal Bhardwaj had bought three of his stories – 2013 movie ‘Ek Thi Dayan’ being one of them. Konkona’s directorial debut ‘A Death In The Gunj’ was also based on Sharma’s short story.
Rekha Bhardwaj offered her condolence and wrote, “A Dear Dear friend. Who teased and made fun n made everyone laugh around him besides being a great writer. Rest in Peace. Heartfelt condolence.”
Film producer Pritish Nandy too tweeted,
Mukul Sharma lived next door, was my best friend. We did the front page cartoon for #TheTelegraph I wrote poetry. He, science fiction. When I came to Mumbai to join The Times, he took over Science Today. Wrote MindSport for IWI. He passed away. Yesterday. I hear. In Delhi.
