Recently, there has been a discussion in the film industry about rising production costs, especially since several big-budget Bollywood films have failed to make the desired impact at the box office. In an interview with Bombay Times, actress and producer Kriti Sanon shared her views on the matter. Last month, a meeting was reportedly held involving four film bodies—the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA), Producers Guild of India, Active Telugu Film Producers Guild, and Tamil Film Active Producers Association—along with five talent agencies, to address the escalating production costs.
Kriti Sanon comments on actor’s entourage cost
Kriti commented, “Actors should get paid what they deserve, but there are many areas where unnecessary expenditure occurs. Ultimately, it is the content that wins. No matter how much you pay people, if you’re not focusing on the main thing, which is the content, the rest doesn’t matter.”
Recently, filmmakers like Anurag Kashyap and Farah Khan opened up about the unnecessary expenses of actors during shoot. In an interview with Humans of Cinema, Kashyap said, “A lot of money spent doesn’t go into making the film. It goes into the paraphernalia; it goes into the entourage. You’re shooting in the middle of a jungle, but one car will be sent to the city three hours away to get you that five-star burger you want. You don’t get into the process of it.”

When asked about this from both an actor and producer’s perspective, Sanon replied, “I haven’t experienced any of that myself, so I can’t comment on it. But it should not be ridiculous. It should make sense at the end of the day. For instance, if you are providing an actor with specific food or a trainer, is that required by the script and the role? That’s the question. When I was doing Mimi, I had to be on a particular diet and gain weight, which I was doing solely for the film. In such cases, it makes sense for the production to cover those costs. However, we should be mindful of expenses and everything on set.”
Kriti on work front
Kriti will be producing Do Patti, in which she stars alongside Kajol. The film is set to premiere on Netflix later this year.
