KWK 8: Karan Johar gives a quirky reaction to Zoya Akhtar launching Suhana Khan, Agastya Nanda, Khushi Kapoor with The Archies: I feel like my crown was taken away

After a fabulous and wholesome season, Koffee With Karan 8 came to an end with a fun finale episode. It saw digital sensation Orry as a special guest. While Kusha Kapila, Danish Sait, Sumukhi Suresh and Tanmay Bhat came to judge the esteemed Koffee Awards. The comedians took the case of the host and roasted him with some solid burns. And one of the most amazing one included Zoya Akhtar taking the ‘crown’ of launching star kids away from Karan Johar.

In the last few years, Karan has got the infamous label of launching only star kids. However, last year, Zoya did the same when she had Suhana Khan, Agastya Nanda and Khushi Kapoor made their debut with The Archies. So, in a fun banter, Danish asked Karan what hurt more, Kiara Advani comparing his age to her parents’ or Zoya taking away his chance of launching those star kids. The host had a quippy reply to it as he said, “Yes”.

Karan went on to say, “I want to say that I felt like my crown was taken away. For the crown to be taken away, the queen died, but here the queen was alive. And yet, suddenly Zoya Akhtar claims it. I even told her that should we do an event where the crown is given. Because I was like you have three bonafide kids from the film families that are in your movie. My best was 2 in one film. She kind of beat the record. Student of The Year had 2, Dhadak was 2. I’ve never had more than 2. Now we’re all really trying to make the outsiders the insiders.” As Sumukhi pointed out that now Karan wants to be the launcher of ‘only outsiders’, Karan said, “That’s the new strategy, but only like talented people.”

Karan’s banter with his jury surely did make the whole episode all the more entertaining. And while the filmmaker might have missed out on launching Suhana, Agastya and Khushi, he does seem to have some star kids ready to be launched. He is reportedly launching Ibrahim Ali Khan under his production with Sarzameen.
