Former Miss Universe and Bollywood actress, Lara Dutta is one of the coolest moms of the industry. She and husband Mahesh Bhupathi together have a daughter named, Saira Bhupati who is 7-year-old. Recently, Lara was at the launch of “Grow Right” campaign in Mumbai where she spoke at length about motherhood, raising her daughter and also gave a few parenting tips.
At the event, she spoke about children’s’ addiction to gadgets and how parents should give responsibility to their children to make decisions for themselves. She said, “On a daily basis, Saira has half an hour window. She can use it to watch any kind of screen whatever it’s her iPad or television-all of it amounts to half-an-hour. None of is through mealtimes. This is something I learned through the years as a parent to limit that I put the responsibility into her hands.”
“So if at 7, I want my daughter to get off her iPad, and I know that she has had enough and time is approaching, I ask her “How much longer do you want to be on it?” I can promise you 99% the answer is “Mama, five minutes”. For her, five minutes is a lot of time. I tell her, “That’s fine. Take your five minutes and when it’s over you will switch it off by yourself and that works. It really works when we give them the responsibility at the young age to make their decisions themselves,” said Lara.
