Alankrita Shrivastava’s ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha‘, after undergoing much hurdle, is finally set for a theatrical release. Not just that, the film is already making waves in prestigious festivals too! Adding to its achievements, the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne has now chosen it as its opening film.
The festival which will showcase 60 films in 20 different languages, has carefully selected films that cater to diverse tastes and subjects. This can certainly be credited to the super powerful cast which includes Konkona Sensharma, Ratna Pathak Shah and Aahaha Kumra; and also a revolting story based upon women’s desires that the society often tends to suppress. “It is a great honour that ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ will be opening the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. While the film has travelled to many parts of the world, it will be screened in Australia for the first time. I am really looking forward to the reaction of the Australian audience. Breaking through the cacophony of mainstream Indian cinema, it is wonderful that there is an Australian film festival that highlights independent Indian cinematic voices. Independent films are telling important stories, challenging the status quo and are important artistic expressions. I’m delighted to participate in the festival with ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’,” Alankrita said.
The film releases in ndian theatres on July 21st.
