Deepika Padukone Priyanka Chopra Ram Leela

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela – featuring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone as the titular characters, was much-loved by the audiences and worked wonders at the box office too. While DeepVeer played the main leads, Priyanka Chopra became the talking point too thanks to her sensual performance in the film’s song Ram Chahe Leela.

Now, during a recent chat, Madhu got candid about Priyanka being initially approached for the lead role and Deepika Padukone ultimately replacing her in the 2013 romantic tragedy film. Read on to know all she said.

Madhu Chopra On Priyanka Chopra Being Replaced In Ram Leela

Talking to Lehren Retro about Priyanka Chopra being replaced in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ram Leela, Madhu Chopra said, “I don’t remember much from that time. I just know that she went to his office next door when I was with my patients in my clinic. When she came back, she said that I am only doing a song in Ram Leela. I asked her, ‘What happened?’ She said, ‘I think that’s better.'” She continued, “She might have taken a well-thought decision. They might have had some lovely discussions that she agreed for something like this because they are still friends.”

While talking about SLB offering Priyanka the lead role in Mary Kom, Madhu revealed the director was hesitant at first about the casting. Stating that the ‘The Sky Is Pink’ actress doesn’t have a revenge mindset, Dr Madhu said, “She doesn’t keep that revenge attitude. She did the film because Sanjay asked her to. Omung (director, Kumar) was the director, and she stayed with Mary Kom for a while to see everything.”

Madhu On Priyanka’s Performance As Kashibai In Bajirao Mastani

During the same conversation, Madhu Chopra also spoke about Priyanka Chopra starring as Kashibai in Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani. She said, “Kashibai was very hard because there were tight shots, and it was all on the face. The expressions were everything… Sanjay is not an easy director, and to keep him pleased in the sense that he is satisfied with the performance… that was the target. That was something she was very focused on. There were no distractions; she would not even talk inside her van during that time.”

While Priyanka has been MIA in Bollywood films, she’s has her slate full with international projects. The actress recently wrapped up shooting for her upcoming action-thriller, The Bluff, co-starring Karl Urban. She will also star in the American action-comedy Heads of State, co-starring John Cena and Idris Elba.
