The Kerala Story has taken the box office as well as the audience storm. While some were appreciating the movie, there were many who thought it was targeting a certain section of people. There were many who also thought it was a propaganda movie. Well, reacting to its success and the fiasco around the Kerala Story, filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar who also faced a similar situation reacted to it on IIFA 2023.
Madhur Bhandarkar on The Kerala Story
When asked about his opinion on The Kerala Story, Madhur said, “I feel that jo films censor hui hai, usko pass karke release karna chahiye. Main hamesha hi khada raha hu baaki picturon ke liye. Koi bhi film ho, kisi bhi film ho ya orientation ho. Mere khayal se ek baar film censor hogayi hai, pass hui hai toh release karna chahiye. (I feel the films that were passed by the censors should be released and have always stood by films regardless of who is making them. I feel once the censor board has passed the movie, it should be released.)“
“You may agree with the film, you may not disagree with the film and that’s for every film. Mujhe iss baat ka hamesha dukh rahega ki jab meri Indu Sarkar film release hui thi (The one thing that hurt me the most was when my Indu Sarkar was released) and nobody from the film industry stood by me. I was alone fighting the whole battle. There were so many protests from the political parties from every side of it. People put petitions against the film, I fought the battle alone, and nobody came. But I stood for people jinki filmon ko problem hoti hai. (whenever they face problems).”
