Madhuri Dixit‘s ‘Abodh’ co-star Tapas Paul passed away in the wee hours of Tuesday after suffering from a cardiac arrest. Former Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal was a renowned Bengali actor as well. He was 61-year-old.

Reportedly, Tapas had arrived in Mumbai to visit his daughter. However, while returning to Kolkata at the airport he complained of chest pain. The veteran actor was soon rushed to a suburban hospital. As per a PTI report, he died around 4 am.

Tapas had a heart ailment and had been hospitalised several times in the past few years. Though he was prominently known for his work in the Bengali film industry, Tapas marked his Bollywood debut with Hiren Nag’s ‘Abodh’ that released in 1984. The film also marked Madhuri Dixit’s debut in Bollywood.

Offering condolence to Tapas’ family, Madhuri took to her Twitter handle and wrote, “The loss of Tapas Paul who was one of the very first actors, I have worked with is felt by many. May God bless and comfort his family during this difficult period(sic)”

He featured in several hit Bengali films like ‘Arpan’ (1987), ‘Surer Sathi’ (1988), ‘Surer Akashe’ (1988), ‘Nayanmani’ (1989), ‘Chokher Aloy’ (1989), ‘Shubha Kamana’ (1991), ‘Mayabini’ (1992), ‘Tobu Mone Rekho’ (1994).

Tapas has a daughter Sohini Paul who is also a Tollywood actress.
