Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt is serving a sentence at Pune’s Yerawada Jail, for hoarding illegal weapons during the Mumbai blasts. The actor will soon be a free man by February 2016. A 2013 petition by former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju seeking pardon for the actor has been rejected by the Governor.
Sources said, Former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju had made an appeal seeking pardon for Sanjay Dutt. He had written a letter to President Pranab Mukherjee, the then PM Manmohan Singh and Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde. The petition by the ex judge has been rejected by the governor Vidyasagar Rao on the recommendation of the state home department, which said it would set a bad precedent as the actor’s conviction was confirmed by the Supreme Court.
Sanjay Dutt is currently out on parole for his daughter’s nose surgery.
