The Coronavirus induced pandemic literally brought everyone’s life to a halt. All public and recreational spaces were closed down when the lockdown was announced. The business of Bollywood was drastically affected by theatres being shut down for more than six months.
Much to the film industry’s delight, the Maharashtra government has finally allowed cinema halls and multiplexes to reopen with 50 per cent occupancy from today.

Sharing the news on Twitter, trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh wrote, “BIGGG NEWS… Cinema halls/multiplexes in #Maharashtra given permission to reopen by the Government of #Maharashtra from tomorrow [5 Nov 2020]… With 50% of their seating capacity… #OfficialOrder dated 3 Nov 2020.”
He further tweeted, “Cinema halls/multiplexes to reopen outside containment zones. No eatables will be allowed inside cinema halls/multiplexes.”

The Maharashtra government has also asked to take all the necessary precautions like physical distancing and sanitisation are taken in all the cinemas. While the other states had allowed reopening of theatres last month, the Maharashtra government kept their decision on hold until now as the number of positive cases of Covid-29 was quite high here. However now that cinema halls will reopen, the cinema lovers will get a chance to spend the festive season by watching their favourite stars on the silver screen.
This news indeed comes as a major relief for the film distributors. Post this announcement, some filmmakers who were planning to release their films on OTT platforms around Diwali are now also contemplating to simultaneously release it in the theatres as well.
