After the Uri Attacks, a huge controversy broke out over Pakistani artistes being a part of Indian Film Industry. A decision was then made and Pakistani artistes were banned from India. Post this, the Pakistan Film Federation passed a judgement that Indian Films would not be release in their country. Now, this decision of Pakistan Film Federation has been abolished will Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ getting a smooth release in theatres in Pakistan. So does that mean even we should lift the ban over Pakistani artistes in India? Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has shared his thoughts over this topic.
He says, “The idea of it could incur the wrath of political parties. The Central government has to come up with a solution, if they wish to rebuild relations razed to the ground prior to the release of ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’. In my opinion, cultural space must be kept alive; the government needs to deal with terrorism in a different way.”

He further adds, “Banning Indian films reflected the shortsightedness of the Pakistan Film Federation. It was reckless of them to indulge in politics. Because of their decision (not to screen Hindi films), their theatres were shutting down. Our contribution to their industry was immense and that boosted their business much more than indigenous content could. Eventually, one can’t deny the countries are tied culturally and emotionally.”
The worst hit due to this ban are Pakistani stars like Fawad Khan, Ali Zafar and Fawad Khan who had a flourishing career in Bollywood.
