Not very long ago, photos of Ranbir Kapoor and Mahira Khan taking a smoke break broke the internet. From being a woman and still smoking, being a mother and wearing a backless dress…Mahira was trolled for all the wrong reasons.
At times as such that prove to be outright regressive, it is good to see so many people opposing moral policing and advocating in favour of a woman’s right to choose her way of living life.
Moving on, Mahira, in an interview with Something Haute, has spoken up. She says the controversy indeed shook her. While she thought of issuing a statement many times, it was difficult to come up with the right one.
Quite understandable. But! She then goes on to say how people of her previous generation might not like the pictures and she isn’t hesitant to say sorry! (Also Read: Mahira Khan becomes the first Pakistani brand ambassador of L’Oréal Paris)
“I understand where all the criticism came from and it didn’t come from a place of hate. I’m not talking about the trolls but those who were genuinely disappointed to see those pictures. It’s the same disappointment that my nani or my mamoo would have felt seeing that. So even now when I meet an older lady who says that she didn’t like the pictures, I’m quick to apologize,” she says.
The internet, for days following the controversy, was filled with hate trolls and abusive words. Actor Ali Zafar even wrote a heartfelt note, condemning all the menace against Mahira.
Is being sorry after making your own choices necessary, Mahira?
