‘Maidaan’: Ajay Devgn starrer gets a new release date

‘Maidaan’ starring superstar Ajay Devgn has got a release date. A story of change and self-belief, ‘Maidaan’ will release the next Independence Day week, August 13, 2021. The film also stars Priyamani, Gajraj Rao and the well known Bengali actor Rudranil Ghosh.

It is helmed by ‘Badhaai Ho’ fame director Amit Sharma and is based on the life of legendary coach Syed Abdul Rahim, who is considered the father of Indian football. It was under his coaching that the Indian football team won at the Asian Games consecutively in 1951 and 1962.

Produced by Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla, and Arunava Joy Sengupta, screenplay and dialogues are written by Saiwyn Quadras and Ritesh Shah respectively.

The film went on floors last year. It will mark the Bollywood debut of National Award-winning actress Keerthy Suresh.

Earlier, while talking about his collaboration with Ajay Devgn, Shariq Patel (CEO of Zee Studios) had shared, “We are happy to collaborate with Boney Kapoor to tell the story of India’s football coach, Syed Abdul Rahim. Ajay Devgn essaying the character makes it even more special. Yet our team is not being sent to important tournaments. When my partners Akash and Joy brought me the true-life story of Syed Abdul Rahim, I was surprised to learn that not many are even aware of this unsung hero and the achievements of India’s great team which had heroes like Chunni Goswami, PK Banerjee, Balaram, Franco, Arun Ghosh and many others. With Khelo India picking up momentum, the time is right to push India.”
