‘Maidaan’ first look: Ajay Devgn’s film on legendary football coach Syed Abdul Rahim goes on floors

In July last year, Zee Studios announced the biopic of India’s legendary football coach Syed Abdul Rahim. The film stars Ajay Devgn in the lead role and is being helmed by ‘Badhaai Ho’ fame director Amit Sharma. The film went on floors today and its first look poster was unveiled by Ajay Devgn.

The actor took to the microblogging site Twitter and shared the following post.

The film promises to chronicle the golden era of Indian football spanning from 1952 to 1962. Bankrolled by Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla and Arunava Joy Sengupta, the film will be presented by Zee Studios. Interestingly, ‘Maidaan’ will mark the Bollywood debut of National Award-winning actress (for ‘Mahanati’) Keerthy Suresh. So watching her share the screen space with Ajay Devgn will be a treat for all their fans out there.

Earlier, talking about this collaboration with Ajay Devgn, Shariq Patel (CEO of Zee Studios) had shared, “We are happy to collaborate with Boney Kapoor to tell the story of India’s football coach, Syed Abdul Rahim. Ajay Devgn essaying the character makes it even more special. Yet our team is not being sent to important tournaments. When my partners Akash and Joy brought me the true-life story of Syed Abdul Rahim, I was surprised to learn that not many are even aware of this unsung hero and the achievements of India’s great team which had heroes like Chunni Goswami, PK Banerjee, Balaram, Franco, Arun Ghosh and many others. With Khelo India picking up momentum, the time is right to push India.”
