Malaika Arora on her divorce with Arbaaz Khan: We were unhappy and it was impacting others

Women opting for divorce and finding love again post an unsuccessful marriage is something which is looked down upon in our society. However, we have some actresses in Bollywood who are breaking the shackles of society by choosing their happiness.

Model-actress Malaika Arora ended her 18 years of marriage with Arbaaz Khan. Post marriage though, Arbaaz and Malaika share a cordial relationship, and so far neither of them has spoken about what went wrong. However, recently on Kareena Kapoor Khan’s radio show ‘What Women Want’ on 104.8 FM Ishq, Malaika (for the first time) opened up about her divorce. When asked about the best and worst advice she received about her decision, Malaika said, “I think sab ki pehli yehi raai hai ki mat karna. Koi aapko nahi kahega ki, ‘Haan, haan, please jayiye, kariye.’ That’s the first thing, ki aap soch samajh ke yeh decision lena. I went through the same thing,”

As for the best advice? The actress said that there were people who called her a ‘brave woman’ and that gave her that extra strength. Malaika also revealed that when she informed her family about her decision, the first thing they told her was to reconsider it and go ahead only when she is 100 per cent sure.

Dwelling further, Malaika said, “We were just two people in a situation that was making each other extremely unhappy and was impacting everybody else’s life around us. It’s never easy, but the person that I am, for me happiness is the most important. And it’s not just me, it is the happiness of everybody around. So even if it means that I have to make or take such a major decision in my life, of course, I didn’t do it alone. There are two people involved. And I think we eventually did think about a lot of things, we weighed every single pros and cons and then we decided that I think it’s better off that we go our separate ways because I think we’ll just be better people.”
