We all are aware of the box office failure that Bollywood films are facing of late. Not just the small-budget films, but even big banner films are facing the test of time. The situation seems to be so bad that even the Khans are unable to sustain themselves at the box office.
Salman Khan’s ‘Tubelight’ that made it to the theatres in the month of June proved to be a dud at the box office. Despite the amazing buzz, this film failed to attract the masses to the theatres. The box office collection of this Kabir Khan directorial surprised one and all and especially after gauging the success of Salman’s last film ‘Sultan’, ‘Tubelight’ was not even close to its one week collection. Following this, Shah Rukh Khan’s recent release ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ met the same fate as that of ‘Tubelight’. The SRK and Anushka Sharma film failed to mint money at the box office with their romantic saga and hence the horrible collection. Well, our eyes pop as we read about the news of these two films meeting such an end, but there’s one man who has actually suffered much more than we can imagine. Distributor Narendra Hirawat of NH Studioz has apparently suffered a loss of Rs 60 crore due to the poor performance of these two films. At least for ‘Tubelight’, there is still some hope as Salim Khan has promised to compensate for all the loss. But while talking to Mid-Day, Hirawat states that he is yet to receive the money. He was quoted saying, “We haven’t received any money from Salman Khan. All these reports about distributors receiving money, are false.”
However, he hasn’t lost hopes. “The movie has not lived up to the expectations, because of which we have suffered a huge loss. Like Salman, I have worked with Shah Rukh in the past too. He is a nice person. I hope we get some kind of compensation for ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ too, but it is all up to them [the producers]. As of now, there hasn’t been any word on it,” he quipped further.
