Manoj Bajpayee, the acclaimed Indian actor, has journeyed through minor roles to become a National Award-winning actor, enduring personal hardships along the way. In a candid interview with Siddharth Kannan, he shared the heart-wrenching experience of losing both his parents within six months.
During the shooting of ‘Killer Soup’ in Kerala, Bajpayee’s father, RK Bajpayee, battled illness, while his siblings cared for him. Despite promises to visit after wrapping the shoot, Bajpayee’s father’s condition deteriorated rapidly. With doctors indicating his father’s reluctance to let go, Bajpayee faced the agonising task of urging his father to peacefully embrace his journey beyond.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Bajpayee recounted the profound impact of his father’s departure, attributing it to the moment he heard his voice. He emphasised the difficulty of balancing personal grief with professional commitments, encapsulating the complexity of navigating loss in the midst of artistic pursuits. “This was the exact time when I was supposed to give a shot for Killer Soup and my spot boy was in the van. In front of him, I was talking to my father and I told him, Father, please go, it is time and it was heart breaking for me. My spot boy started crying, howling and I was going for my shot. That was the toughest moment for me but I dealt with it and early morning the next day, my father left,” the actor recalled.
Bajpayee continued, “He was staying in that body to see me and when he heard me over the phone after a long time, he left his body.”
In his latest role in ‘Silence 2: The Night Owl Bar Shootout,’ Bajpayee’s performance undoubtedly carries the weight of his personal journey, resonating with audiences beyond the screen. Through his candid storytelling, he not only honours his father’s memory but also offers solace to those navigating similar trials.
