Masaba Gupta reveals she wanted to act but mother Neena dissuaded her

Masaba Gupta is one of the most talented fashion designers. Her mother Neena Gupta is Bollywood’s ace actress as she is seen in hits like ‘Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan’, ‘Badhaai Ho’ and many more. Turns out Masaba also wanted to walk on her mother’s footsteps, but Neena did not approve.

In an interview Mid-Day, Masaba revealed that she wanted to make a career in acting, but Neena was not up for it. Masaba said, “I wanted to act since I was 14, but I was dissuaded by my mother for various reasons. She told me I would be stereotyped. Back then, I wanted to be an actor for the sake of vanity. I wanted to have people fussing over me in the make-up van.”

But, Masaba feels that she feels no compulsion to act, “I will act because I enjoy it. My business puts food on the table, so there is no compulsion to act.”

Meanwhile, Masaba will make her acting debut in the new Netflix show ‘Masaba Masaba’ in which the ac designer stars alongside her mother. Talking about the same Masaba said in a statement, “Mom and I are playing fictionalised characters of ourselves in Masaba Masaba. The series is a slice of our lives and reliving key moments even though fictionalised, took me down memory lane. Sharing screen space with mom was quite an experience.”

“The series is packed with a combination of laughter, tears, struggles and inspiration that I’m hoping will resonate with women around the globe. I’m a huge fan of Netflix and its storytelling and couldn’t be more excited to make my debut with such a strong creative partner,” she added.

‘Masaba Masaba’ is directed by Sonam Nair and it will stream on Netflix from August 28.
