Meghna Gulzar: You will see a disfigured Deepika Padukone in ‘Chhapaak’

Last year, leggy beauty Deepika Padukone mesmerised everyone with her terrific performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ‘Padmaavat’. Post that film, Deepika took a break from work and it was only recently that she announced her upcoming project ‘Chhapaak’. Interestingly with this film, Deepika will be making her debut as a producer.

Based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, ‘Chhapaak’ is a story of trauma, triumph and the unquashable human spirit. The film is directed by Meghna Gulzar who is also co-producing it alongwith Deepika. Recently at ‘Lit for Life 2019’ event in Chennai, talking about ‘Chhapaak’, Meghna shared, “You won’t be seeing Deepika, you know. You will be seeing a disfigured Deepika. There is an uncanny similarity between the survivor and Deepika.”

Laxmi has shared her life’s story with Meghna and is very confident about the director’s portrayal of her life. She is even happy that Deepika Padukone will be playing her role in the film. ‘Chhapaak’ will also star ‘A Death in The Gunj’ fame actor Vikrant Massey. He is paired opposite Deepika in the film.

We are so excited to see both Meghna and Deepika translate the ever inspiring story of Laxmi Agarwal on the celluloid. We just can’t wait to watch this film which also marks the first collaboration of Meghna and Deepika.
