Sam Bahadur: Vicky Kaushal’s transformation into Sam Manekshaw is jaw-dropping, Meghna Gulzar reveals, ‘he stopped being himself’

Vicky Kaushal is all set to don the army uniform for the third time in Sam Bahadur. The movie is a biographical drama based on the life of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. So far, the teaser, trailer, and songs have left us impressed with Vicky’s uncanny resemblance to the Field Marshal. He has slipped into the character with utmost elan and his transformation has left us speechless. Now, the actor has shared details about his preparation for the movie.

Vicky Kaushal on preparation for Sam Bahadur

In the video shared by director Meghna Gulzar, Vicky Kaushal shared details of his transformation for the character. He recalls his first meet with the director and says, “The first meeting between Meghna and I on Sam Bahadur happened in 2019. Before going on floor, we would meet for 5-6 hours just for reading sessions and workshops. I think the prep for Sam Bahadur has been tremendous and it’s been very meticulous.” The actor further heaped praise on the director for her attention to details. Vicky also revealed developing skill sets of Sam for 15 days rigorously after shot schedule. While Meghna shared, “He had stopped being Vicky Kaushal even when he was not in costume.“

Further, Sanya Malhotra also reminisced about her first day on set and shared, “When I saw Vicky on sets for the first time, I was blown away. I couldn’t see Vicky anywhere and could see only Sam in him.” For those unversed, to keep the setting and vibe of the film authentic, the makers shot with real-life army personnel as background artists.

About Sam Bahadur

This biography is based on the life of Sam Manekshaw who was the Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. He was the first Indian Army officer to be promoted to the rank of field marshal. Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the biographical drama will also star Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Sanya Malhotra in pivotal roles.

The film will be releasing in cinemas on 1st December, 2023. It marks the second collaboration between Vicky Kaushal and Meghna Gulzar. The movie will witness a clash with Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal.
