Mona Singh recalls going with ‘full sardarni josh’ and slapping Aamir Khan during 3 Idiots

Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots is considered one of the best films to have come out of Indian cinema. It has become a cult classic over the years. The film featured Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani and Mona Singh. It gave many iconic scenes to Hindi cinema, and one was the delivery scene. And recently, Mona recalled giving a hard slap to Aamir during that sequence.

The delivery scene is one of the most emotional scenes in the movie. Aamir’s Rancho helps Mona deliver her child during a blackout. When he is assumed by everyone to be stillborn, the chant ‘All Is Well’ brings him back to life. During that scene, in one of the shot Mona had to slap Aamir. And in a recent interaction with Humans Of Bombay, she shared her ordeal during it.

Mona said, “The Table Tennis scene was pretty intense and everybody was sharing their stories. All the men around me were telling me, ‘My wife did this, my wife did that.’ Rajkumar Hirani sir told me, ‘My wife kicked me out.’ Madhavan told me, ‘My wife bit me.’ Then I was like, ‘What should I do?’ Then Aamir sir told me, ‘Mona you slap me.’ Then I slapped him but it wasn’t hard enough and he was like, ‘Asli vala thappad maro (Give me a real slap).’ I went full Sardarni josh and I slapped him.”

The actress revealed that Aamir’s bodyguard gave her a death stare post that. She informed, “I remember his bodyguard staring at me and I was like, ‘Sorry.’ But Aamir sir continued acting because that’s what he loves. He wants it to be all real and I gave it all real.”

Mona shares her experience on the film

Even with such big stars in the film, Mona revealed that none of them had a ‘starry’ attitude. She recalls the whole experience of shooting for 3 Idiots very fondly. She shared, “They kept saying, ‘Mona tum star ho. We love you.’ I was like, ‘Why isn’t anyone acting starry?’ Coming from a non-filmy background, we all have preconceived notions about every actor, but none of them were like that. They were all pranksters.”

Mona, Aamir and Kareena went on to reunite for the last year’s release Laal Singh Chaddha. There, the actress played Aamir’s mother. On the other front, Mona has had quite an eventful 2023 on OTT with projects like Kafas, Made In Heaven 2 and Kaala Paani.
