Actress Tanushree Dutta accused Nana Patekar of sexual harassment in 2018 during a Me Too movement act. Recently, Patekar addressed these allegations in an interview with The Lallantop, stating that he never got angry because he believed the accusations were baseless from the beginning.
Nana Patekar on allegations put against him by Tanushree Dutta
“I knew that it was all a lie. That’s why I didn’t get angry,” Patekar said. “When everything was a lie, why should I be angry? And all those things are old. They have happened. What can we talk about them? Everyone knew the truth. What could I say at that time when nothing like this happened? Suddenly, someone says that you did this, you did that. What would I have answered to all these things? Should I have said that I didn’t do this? I know the truth that I didn’t do anything.”
Dutta had sparked the MeToo movement in India in 2018 by alleging that Patekar, choreographer Ganesh Acharya, and director Vivek Agnihotri behaved inappropriately with her during a film shoot. Specifically, she claimed that during the 2008 shooting of a song for the film Horn Ok Pleassss, Patekar tried to sexually abuse her. Dutta pointed out that although the song was to be filmed with a single actor, Patekar would still be present on the set.
Tanushree Dutta on trying to rebuild her career
Reflecting on the challenges she faced since making these allegations, Dutta shared her experiences in a 2022 interview with Hindustan Times. “A lot of stuff has happened since I came back to India. I am trying to resurrect my career, and people are interested in working with me, despite the image that these Bollywood mafias have portrayed as being difficult… I am getting offers for films as well as web projects, in fact signed some also, but have noticed none they materialise. All of a sudden, the producers or director go into incognito mode, or sponsors drop.”
Dutta’s claims and her continued struggle to find work in the industry highlight the significant impact of her allegations on her career. Despite the backlash and professional obstacles, she remains outspoken about her experiences and the difficulties she has faced since returning to India.
